'Living in Bondage' star, Merit reveals her beauty secrets

Star of that pioneering Nigerian movie, “Living in Bondage”, Nwabueze-Okonta popularly known as Merit, is not growing older, having been looking utterly 'ravishing' even after 22 years in marriage. And over her 24-year career in the movie industry, the mother of 6 children has learned a number of beauty tips and tricks to keep her looking flawless both on set and on the go.
Now, as she prepares to bid farewell to 2016, Merit shares some of her beauty secrets with Hi Society, revealing, however, everything from her favorite beauty products to the craziest treatment she's tried.
“I try to adjust to any situation I find myself in”, she began.
“I laugh a lot and I apply pure coconut oil on my skin day and night. Sometimes, in cool weather, I go for unadulterated sheabutter,” she added.
Merit, who lost her husband, Chief Okonta, in March this year, after a protracted illness and had a quiet Christmas celebration with her immediate family, also revealed that while her skincare and make-up routines are not incredibly complex, when it comes to her hair, things are slightly more simple because she chooses to wash it just once every five days.

Meet Nollywood actor who doesn't believe in Christmas

While many people are in the festive mood, warming up to bid farewell to 2016, top Yoruba actor, Yemi Fash seems to have a different impression about the Christmas celebration as he doesn't mean anything to him.
In a chat with WG, on what Christmas means to him, the actor said, “Christmas is like every other day. I don’t believe in Christmas or Yuletide. To me, every day is Christmas because there is nothing I will eat on Christmas Day that I have not eaten before. Or there is no place I will take my children to that I have not taken them to before. So to me is all about making yourself happy whenever the opportunity arises”.

On what he has been working on lately, the actor said, he has been busy honouring veterans in the movie industry. “I have been doing a lot in terms of celebrating African veterans in the movie industry through Afro- Heritage Entertainment Award that happens in Texas. And what we do is to celebrate and humour those that have spent from 20 years upwards in the industry. It is not only Nigerians, it’s over Africa. We have honoured the likes of Pet Edochie Kunle Afolayan, Liz Benson among others. The award has two categories, Icon and Legend. The Icon is twenty years above. We do fifteen veterans yearly. So that is what I have been doing late. The industry has been good before during the time of home video and we are getting better” he said.

‘I need a new platform to express myself’, Harrysong on why he dumped Five Star Music:

Reggae Blues crooner, Harrison Tare Okiri, a.k.a, Harrysong whose news of dumping his former music label, Five Star Music to start his own label, Alterplate went viral on the internet has revealed that the desire to express himself in a new platform prompted his decision to part-ways with his former management.
He, however, debunked insinuations that he was having a running battle with his former management before he finally dumped the label. Speaking on the development officially during a media chat, Harrysong admitted leaving Five Star Music. He said, “I am no longer Five Star music artiste. My contract with the company has expired and I decided to unveil my new musical platform. I have learned a lot coming from Question Mark, the first record label I have worked with before I moved to Five Star Music. And when the contract expired, I aspired to grow and to express myself in another platform. That’s why I set up the Alterplate and you will see that it is not just a record label, it involves a lot of things. This is a dream I have been nurturing for many years now. I am very grateful to God that it has become a reality.”
Explaining further, the “Better Pikin” crooner said, “I will always respect both platforms. I will always respect Five Star Music where I learnt the ropes. I can still do some stuff for them such as writing songs or anything they want me to do for them. I am still in talking terms with them and I had their blessing before leaving.” Harryson said, Alterplate as the name of his label, depicts where he was coming from.
According to him, “I started music as a musical director in the church. The name is talking about where I am coming from and the music I have to churn out. It’s also the expectation of what is coming into the music industry in Nigeria. We have some artistes who are already signed to the label and these artistes are people that have worked with me in the past. “I know them and I know what they can do. We also have a band group now called, Alterplate band, that will be performing with me on stage. They can also perform at events without me because they have complete team. This is what we started long time ago. Before now, I was not strong enough to start this but now, I am stronger. I didn’t quarrel with Five Star Music. People say that I am the engine room of Five Star music.
“The truth is that I wrote a lot of songs for them and it doesn’t mean the label is going to crumble as I take my leave. They have a lot of talented people like Kcee, Skibii, Ex-boster among others. I came into the label with my own sound. So, as I am leaving they have their own sound that they are going to continue with. I don’t think there will be any reason for me to go back to Five Star Music, but I will always appreciate the label.”

Nollywood actor, Leo Mezie opens up on how he survived kidney ailment

Nollywood actor, Leo Mezie who was down with kidney related disease for almost four months is back on his feet again.
Mezie returned to the country from the UK last week, where he went for medical treatment, looking hale and hearty. Fortunately, the good-looking actor did not undergo a kidney transplant as was widely publicized. Instead, his kidneys suddenly started working again to the surprise of everyone. Leo Mezie Leo Mezie
The actor met with his media friends at celebrity restaurant, O’jez, National Stadium, Surulere, Tuesday, where he formally announced his return to the country, as well as his plans to organize a survival party to thank God for giving him a second chance to live. He recounted the touching story of how he cheated death. Mezie said, his battle with the terminal ailment and consequential victory over death made him to realize that “There is God, and He works in a miraculous way.”
News broke around July this year that the popular actor was down with advanced stage of kidney disease and required over 60, 000 pounds to carry out a transplant. “I was devastated, I was broken but God decided to give me a second chance, to serve him. “I had made up my mind that I was going to die. I had begun to make preparations because from research I knew that most people live a maximum of 10 years after a transplant, some even less than that. But my wife told me I should not give up, she gave me strength to fight on. At a point, I told her to go back to her parents and start a new life without me. That she’s still young and cannot afford to live with a dying man. “
But after my friend, Mrs. Juliet Bumah, Saturday Editor of The Telegraph visited me in the company of other media friends; that was when they told me they had to let the world know about my plight because I would not be able to foot the medical bills alone. Then I was already spending about 170, 000 weekly on dialysis aside monies I was paying to see consultants too. I agreed with them and that was it.”
The actor is full of gratitude to Nigerians, especially Apostle Suleiman Johnson of Omega Fire Ministries who he said, promptly responded to the “Save Leo Mezie” campaign. He also appreciated Nollywood, fans, and well-wishers who stood by him throughout the trying time. “I never knew I was loved by Nigerians, I never knew God also loved me this much,” he said. He displayed public gratitude to Apostle Suleiman Johnson for coming to his rescue. “I want to thank Apostle Suleiman Johnson for what he did for me. I have never met him before I took ill but as soon he heard about my condition, he contacted me and asked me to stop further public appeals for funds. He then took over all my medical bills and my stay in the UK. I did not lack anything. I thank God for using Apostle Suleiman Johnson to save me from dying,” he gushed.
On the issue of a kidney transplant, Mezie said, “I want to clear the air here, I did not undergo a kidney transplant, although that was what the doctors in the UK said, on my arrival. God did His work and I was only treated effectively. I will call what happened a miracle because tests carried out on me revealed that my kidneys were badly damaged and the only solution was a transplant. But after weeks of treatment, the doctors were even shocked that they were able to revive my kidneys. I give God all the glory.”
Leo Mezie was down with kidney related disease for almost four months. The news of his ailment was broken barely a month after popular music producer, OJB Jezreel passed on. The latter died three years after he underwent a kidney transplant.

Waje, Toolz, others want govt to prioritise health sector

Top Nigerian celebrities including Toolz, Ali Nuhu, Waje, Yemi Alade, and Hon. Desmond Elliot have come together through the theme, Make Naija Stronger, under the umbrella of the renowned ONE campaign to urge the government to adhere to its commitment to the 2001 African Union Abuja Commitment as it prepares to finalise the 2017 budget.
Fifteen years ago, all African governments made a commitment in Abuja to increase health funding to 15% of their budgets.
However, the commitment has never been met by the Nigerian government, and only 4.37% of the 2016 budget was allocated to health.
“As a proud and patriotic Nigerian, it’s particularly distressing to me that our country is suffering from a silent killer, health crisis, which is completely avoidable,” says A-list singer, Waje.
“It’s time to act, Naija. We must come together with one voice and tell our government to do more by investing in the health of our children and families. By doing so, we’ll Make Naija Stronger.”
Ali Nuhu, a household name in Kannywood, added his voice to the call, saying, “Enough is enough! This is the message we are sending to government. A healthy Nigeria makes a wealthy Nigeria and we need to stand together to Make Naija Stronger. Now it’s your turn. If you haven’t added your voice to ask for our nation’s health system to be made better, you need to do so right now.”
The celebrities all spoke at the launch of the ONE campaign’s new public service announcement video which features the stellar lineup calling for urgent action to invest in public health.
Speaking at a press parley earlier in the week, Nachilala Nkombo, ONE Africa deputy director, disclosed that “while other African countries are improving their health indicators, inconsistent and and insufficient health funding in Nigeria over the years has made access to basic life saving health services a luxury for ordinary Nigerians.

Zack Orji's wife debuts in music

Like her son, Leo'nel who debuted in the Nigerian music scene few years ago, Zack Orji's wife, Ngozi is on the verge of creating her own unique style in the country's gospel music scene.
Ngozi, who is also an actress with over 20 movies to her credit, recently released two singles, “Chimnonso and N'ime Jehova” , saying “I am incomplete without gospel music.”
According to her, “ I have always been singing but professionally, my singing career actually dates back to about 20 years ago. I started as a chorister in the Full Gospel Businessmen’s fellowship, Word Base Assembly, and also in Power Line Bible Church where, at different times, I was either a worship leader or praise minister. I have also been a guest artiste in different churches on different occasions.”
Continuing, she said, “My career as a gospel artiste has also taken me to different countries. For example, I have travelled to the UK and Ghana among other countries, to minister as a gospel artiste. I just believe it's time for me to do a compilation of all the songs I have written and composed over the years, and bless the world with them; praise the Lord with these songs and express my gift on a larger scale by extending it to a wider audience.
Ngozi who studied Secretarial Studies at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, and later read English at the University of Lagos, said, her inspiration comes from God, adding that “He is the giver of inspirations. The desire to praise and worship God for who He is in my life and what He has done for me also inspires me.”
Speaking further, Ngozi said her family equally inspires her songs. “Sometimes, I use songs as my own way of talking about my personal experiences in life, what I have gone through and what other people have gone through in their own lives. In addition, the need to use my songs to encourage other people to have faith and trust in God equally inspires me,”she added.
Ngozi traced her romance with music to the early 90’s, when she was a member of a music group called, The Rock Foundation. She said, music runs in her family, as her son, Lionel is also into music. “I feel blessed to have him; he is a very gifted young man with about five singles to his credit and three videos. I couldn’t have a better son.”

Celebration, as Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu wins at Appeal Court

It's celebration galore as Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has won the first appeal delivered by the Court of Appeal in Abuja against the ruling which removed him from office.
In June, a Feder
al High Court, sitting in Abuja, annulled the election of Ikpeazu.
According to the court, Ikpeazu was guilty of tax evasion and was therefore unqualified to have contested the 2015 governorship election in the state.
It ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue a certificate of return to Samson Ogah, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who contested the governorship ticket with the governor.
The court also ordered the governor to vacate office immediately, and hand over to Ogah, who came second in the PDP governorship primaries in Abia.
Following that ruling, Ikpeazu appealed the case.
An Abia State High Court also stopped the Chief Judge of the state or any other judge in the state from inaugurating Samson Uche Ogah as Abia state Governor.
Ikpeazu’s appeal follows the ruling delivered by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 8 in which the judge insisted that he had jurisdiction to hear a motion for stay of execution of his earlier judgments delivered on June 27 even after the appeals against the judgments had been entered.
The Justice Helen Ogunwumiju-led five-man bench collectively agreed in their judgment that Justice Abang wrongly assumed jurisdiction to hear the motion and adjourned it till a later date.
Justice Philomina Ekpe, who read the lead judgment, held that what Justice Abang ought to have done in line with time-honoured doctrine of “stari decisis” was to have passed the motion to the Court of Appeal for determination.
Justice Ekpe also held that the Justice Abang wrongly interpreted the provisions of Order 4(10) and (11) of the Court of Appeal rules when he held that the said provisions were only applicable to an interlocutory ruling of the lower court and when a final judgment in a suit had been delivered.
She also added that Justice Abang lacked jurisdictions to interpret the provisions of the Court of Appeal being the rules of a Superior Court.

Lisa Marie Presley checks Into Rehab To Fight Addiction To Alcohol & Drugs

According to the National ENQUIRER, Lisa Marie Presley has checked into rehab to battle addictions to alco
hol, painkillers and other drugs.
Elvis’ daughter, who recently split from her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood, after ten years of marriage, secretly entered The Hills Treatment Center in Los Angeles, a rehab to the rich and famous which is setting Presley back $400,000 a month .
“Lisa Marie just fell off the wagon over the past couple of years and needed serious help in getting her life back on track again,” an insider revealed.
As RadarOnline reported, Presley, 48, filed for divorce on June 24 from 55-year-old Lockwood, with whom she has 7-year-old twin daughters, Harper and Finley.
The ENQUIRER reported that the former couple’s explosive fights and troubling issues may have contributed to Presley’s problems.
Her tumultuous relationship with Lockwood “was not a healthy one and a lot of people thought she was self-medicating to deal with her pain,” said a friend.
“Michael was verbally insulting and, pals say, would fat-shame and belittle Lisa Marie,” claimed one insider.
“They had knock-down, drag-out fights that left Lisa Marie feeling as if he’d pummeled her.”
The insider alleged that Lockwood, who overdosed on drugs last fall, “ripped her off while she wasn’t looking.”
Presley has famously battled addiction for decades, admitting in the past that she’s used “cocaine, sedatives, pot and drinking — all at the same time.”
“I just couldn’t be sober,” she noted. “I don’t know how I lived through it.”
According to The ENQUIRER, sources revealed Presley is using a “private detox team” to help with her current struggle.
