Celebration, as Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu wins at Appeal Court

It's celebration galore as Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has won the first appeal delivered by the Court of Appeal in Abuja against the ruling which removed him from office.
In June, a Feder
al High Court, sitting in Abuja, annulled the election of Ikpeazu.
According to the court, Ikpeazu was guilty of tax evasion and was therefore unqualified to have contested the 2015 governorship election in the state.
It ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue a certificate of return to Samson Ogah, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who contested the governorship ticket with the governor.
The court also ordered the governor to vacate office immediately, and hand over to Ogah, who came second in the PDP governorship primaries in Abia.
Following that ruling, Ikpeazu appealed the case.
An Abia State High Court also stopped the Chief Judge of the state or any other judge in the state from inaugurating Samson Uche Ogah as Abia state Governor.
Ikpeazu’s appeal follows the ruling delivered by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 8 in which the judge insisted that he had jurisdiction to hear a motion for stay of execution of his earlier judgments delivered on June 27 even after the appeals against the judgments had been entered.
The Justice Helen Ogunwumiju-led five-man bench collectively agreed in their judgment that Justice Abang wrongly assumed jurisdiction to hear the motion and adjourned it till a later date.
Justice Philomina Ekpe, who read the lead judgment, held that what Justice Abang ought to have done in line with time-honoured doctrine of “stari decisis” was to have passed the motion to the Court of Appeal for determination.
Justice Ekpe also held that the Justice Abang wrongly interpreted the provisions of Order 4(10) and (11) of the Court of Appeal rules when he held that the said provisions were only applicable to an interlocutory ruling of the lower court and when a final judgment in a suit had been delivered.
She also added that Justice Abang lacked jurisdictions to interpret the provisions of the Court of Appeal being the rules of a Superior Court.

Lisa Marie Presley checks Into Rehab To Fight Addiction To Alcohol & Drugs

According to the National ENQUIRER, Lisa Marie Presley has checked into rehab to battle addictions to alco
hol, painkillers and other drugs.
Elvis’ daughter, who recently split from her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood, after ten years of marriage, secretly entered The Hills Treatment Center in Los Angeles, a rehab to the rich and famous which is setting Presley back $400,000 a month .
“Lisa Marie just fell off the wagon over the past couple of years and needed serious help in getting her life back on track again,” an insider revealed.
As RadarOnline reported, Presley, 48, filed for divorce on June 24 from 55-year-old Lockwood, with whom she has 7-year-old twin daughters, Harper and Finley.
The ENQUIRER reported that the former couple’s explosive fights and troubling issues may have contributed to Presley’s problems.
Her tumultuous relationship with Lockwood “was not a healthy one and a lot of people thought she was self-medicating to deal with her pain,” said a friend.
“Michael was verbally insulting and, pals say, would fat-shame and belittle Lisa Marie,” claimed one insider.
“They had knock-down, drag-out fights that left Lisa Marie feeling as if he’d pummeled her.”
The insider alleged that Lockwood, who overdosed on drugs last fall, “ripped her off while she wasn’t looking.”
Presley has famously battled addiction for decades, admitting in the past that she’s used “cocaine, sedatives, pot and drinking — all at the same time.”
“I just couldn’t be sober,” she noted. “I don’t know how I lived through it.”

Chris Brown has been struck with another lawsuit following a 2014 shooting at a Los Angeles nightclub. TMZ reports that Ginja Elms, a clubgoer who was struck by a bullet during the shooting at 1 OAK nightclub, is suing Chris Brown.

I am celebrated more outside Nigeria—Orlando Julius

Legendary Nigerian saxophonist and pioneer of Afro soul and Afrobeat music, Orlando Julius who is currently on a musical tour of the United States, recently took a swipe at his over five decades sojourn in the nation's music industry, lamenting that he has rarely been celebrated in the country.
Orlando expressed this deep concern while in a chat with Nollywood Spy.com, before he jetted out to America, last month. The veteran saxophonist lamented that unlike his contemporaries, he has rarely been celebrated in the country.
“It's very unfortunate that I have been celebrated more outside the shores of Nigeria. I am the last of Nigeria's titans in the highlife music genre. But I am less celebrated at home than I am celebrated outside the country,”he bemoaned.
Orlando Julius remains one of the surviving higlife musicians in the country today. He began his musical career in the 50s, but he made his first major impact in 19966, with his album Super Afro Soul. He started receiving global acclamation few years back with the series of reissues of his old songs. In America, pundits believed that Orlando's work had a significant impact on the development of soul music in that country, having spent a great deal of time in there working with artists like Lamont Dozier, Hugh Masakela, and The Crusaders.

Ex-President Jonathan opens up on his late night visits to Buhari

Former President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly revealed that he has been visiting President Muhammadu Buhari more frequently than the public know.
While speaking to newsmen at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Wednesday,  on the purpose of his visit to the President, Jonathan said he mostly visited Buhari at night as he has become a state property.
“You asked why I came to see the president today; one key thing is that having been a head of government, a former president, you become a state property,” he said.
“That’s the privilege you have but every privilege has its corresponding responsibility, and once you become a state property, most of your international engagements that have to do with public addresses and some international assignments, they become national assignments; you brief the President.
“Even when I was here, the former presidents used to do that and see me. I have been coming; most times I come in the night; that’s why you don’t see me.
“I came to brief the president about some of my engagements. As you are aware, I will leading the AU elections monitoring team to Zambia, I came to brief the president about some of these external engagements. It is the tradition," the former president said.
On the Niger Delta crisis, Jonathan said to find lasting solutions to the pipeline bombings, all the stakeholders in the Ijaw ethnic nationality - traditional rulers, elders and opinion leaders, must be involved.
“We have been in touch to see that peace reigns in the country; those of you that have followed my talks when I was here, my emphasis was always that we need a united Nigeria and I always emphasise that Nigeria is great not just about the oil. So many countries produce more oil than Nigeria but nobody notices them.
“We are great because of our size, the human resources we have, the diversity we have. If we fragmentise the country into small components, we will be forgotten by the world. That has been my focal position and without peace there cannot be development anywhere in the world; we are all working collectively to see that issues are resolved,” he said.
